Professor Jason Heyes is a Professor of Employment Relations at the Sheffield University Management School (University of Sheffield). He directs the Centre for Decent Work and previously served as Associate Dean for Impact and Engagement (2020–2024). His career includes roles as Reader in Human Resource Management at the University of Birmingham.
Research focuses on employment relations, political economy, and public policy, with emphases on labour market transitions, underemployment, and governance of labour issues. He leads ESRC-funded projects like 'Transitions of Young Workers in the UK Labour Market' (2022–2025) and contributes to the Productivity Institute. His work often combines qualitative/quantitative methods and engages with bodies like the ILO, European Commission, and Low Pay Commission.
Publications include The Governance of Labour Administration (2021) and edited volumes on carer leave policies. He advises ILO technical projects in Eastern Europe and co-developed a labour inspection toolkit for informal economies. Academic roles include Associate Editor of Industrial Relations Journal and membership in ESRC Peer Review College.
Teaching commitments include doctoral training modules and contributions to the Global Leadership Initiative. He has won teaching awards (2015, 2016) for integrating international policy engagement into education.
