معرفی
Jason G. Smith is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington, Seattle. His research focuses on defensin-virus interactions, enteric viral pathogenesis, and Paneth cell biology in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
- Established the Smith Lab at South Lake Union campus
- Developed 3D intestinal enteroid models for studying host-pathogen interactions
- Collaborates with institutions including Washington State University and University of British Columbia
Research Interests:
The lab investigates how defensins neutralize non-enveloped viruses through molecular virology, structural biology, and animal models. Additional work explores inflammasome sensing of Salmonella and IBD-linked Paneth cell dysfunction using patient-derived enteroid cultures.
Training Leadership:
Active in mentorship programs including CIMER, PR2ISM, and HHMI Gilliam. Holds T32 and PRACTICAL Consortium affiliations.
Awards & Recognition:
Lab members have received institutional awards (e.g., Hannah Kim, 2024). No individual scientific awards explicitly mentioned.
