Jason P. de Koff is an Extension Professor in the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering at Tennessee State University's College of Agriculture. He specializes in biofuel crop production, sustainable agriculture, and soil chemistry, with a strong focus on integrating drone technology into agricultural practices and Extension programming. He holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Ithaca College, an M.Sc. in Soil and Water Science from UC Riverside, and a Ph.D. in Agronomy from Purdue University.
His research emphasizes winter canola, soil health, and the application of biochar in energy crop systems. He has secured over $7 million in grants as PI/Co-PI for projects like the USDA-NIFA Climate Smart Commodities initiative and the DOE-funded Biochar-enhanced Ecosystem Services program. His work bridges academia and practice through Extension programs, including virtual farm tours for soil health education and drone training for stakeholders.
De Koff has received numerous awards including the ASA Agronomic Education Award (2024), TAAA&S Communication Awards (2022-2023), and TSU's Outstanding Extension Specialist recognition. He teaches courses such as AGSC 5110 (Research Methods) and ENSC 2204 (Soil Science), while leading over 30 Extension publications on topics like drone regulations, winter canola cultivation, and bioenergy systems.
