Jason C. Kuo is a Professor of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Maryland, College Park, with affiliations in Cinema and Media Studies and Asian American Studies. His career spans teaching at National Taiwan University, Williams College, and Yale University, and research fellowships at institutions including the Freer Gallery, Harvard University, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

His research expertise spans Chinese ink painting, modern and contemporary visual culture, critical theory, and gender/race studies, with a focus on Asia and diaspora dynamics. His publications and curatorial projects explore the reinvention of traditional aesthetics in postwar contexts, including works by Gao Xingjian and Lo Ch'ing.
Recent articles analyze Chinese ink painting's global reception, Shanghai visual culture, and postwar American scholarship on Chinese art. He has directed the Summer Institute of Connoisseurship of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting and organized conferences on cross-cultural art studies.
