Professor Jasminka Kalajdzic is a distinguished legal scholar and practitioner at the University of Windsor's Faculty of Law. She previously served as Director of the Class Action Clinic, the first of its kind in North America, which focuses on advancing access to justice through class action litigation. In September 2024, she was appointed to the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, marking a significant transition in her career. Her work includes groundbreaking contributions to class action law, including leadership in the Law Commission of Ontario’s class action policy review and advocacy for equitable legal processes.
Professor Kalajdzic has been recognized nationally for her expertise, receiving the inaugural Ontario Bar Association Award for Excellence in Class Actions (2021) and teaching excellence awards from the University of Windsor Alumni Association. The Class Action Clinic under her direction has secured substantial settlements for plaintiffs, including a $3.1 million award in 2022 and a $250,000 allocation in 2021. She has also contributed to public education through instructional videos explaining class action processes.
Her research emphasizes systemic legal reform and the intersection of class actions with public policy. She has organized major academic events like the Canadian Association for Legal Ethics Conference (2019) and authored influential works such as Class Actions in Canada, celebrated at a 2019 book launch. Her interdisciplinary collaborations include addressing socio-legal issues like the Windsor blockade's economic impacts (2022).
