Dr. Jasmine Bai is a Senior Lecturer in Chinese at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), based in the School of Advertising, Marketing & PR within the Faculty of Business & Law. She holds a PhD from QUT and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. As the Chinese Language Subject Area Coordinator, she leads and teaches courses in Chinese-English translation, Mandarin language studies, and related subjects. Her research focuses on transnational higher education, language education, and language teacher development, employing qualitative methodologies to explore cross-cultural adaptation, learner identity, and teacher agency. She collaborates with business scholars on interdisciplinary projects involving linguistics and discourse analysis.
Bai is a certified translator with NAATI and provides translation services for international organizations like the OECD and China State Administration of Taxation. She has published in top-tier journals such as System, Higher Education Research and Development, and Globalisation, Societies and Education. Her work bridges academia and practice, including legal translation for Australian firms, scholarly translations, and cultural proofreading for educational materials. She actively mentors future language professionals through AUSIT's Translator Mentoring Program.
Bai’s research interests emphasize the intersection of language education and global academic contexts, addressing challenges faced by international students and teachers. Her contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and reduced inequalities. She currently supervises research students in areas like transnational education, applied linguistics, and language teacher development.
