Jari Pulkkinen is a Doctoral Researcher (Researcher) at the Water, Energy and Environmental Engineering (WE3) research unit within the Faculty of Technology at the University of Oulu. His primary focus involves smart energy transition strategies to decarbonize urban energy systems, with specific expertise in smart building applications and demand flexibility for electric heating systems.
He earned his Master of Science in Technology (M.Sc.(Tech)) in Environmental Engineering from the University of Oulu, specializing in Industrial Energy and Environmental Engineering. His academic background provides foundational knowledge for his current research endeavors.
Research interests span Smart Energy Systems, Urban Energy Systems, Building Energy Systems, Smart buildings, Thermal Behavior of Buildings, Heating of Buildings, Energy Flexibility, Demand Side Management, and Climate Change Impact to Energy Demand. His work integrates Environmental Technology, Cleantech, Intelligent Urban Environments, and Smart Environments to address sustainability challenges in energy infrastructure.
Pulkkinen actively supervises energy-related bachelor's and master's theses, contributing to academic development in sustainable engineering. As a core member of the WE3 research group, he collaborates on interdisciplinary projects focused on water-energy-environmental systems modeling and sustainable urban development solutions.
