Pekka M. Rossi is an Assistant Professor (Tenure track) at the Water, Energy and Environmental Engineering unit within the Faculty of Technology, University of Oulu, holding a D. Sc. (tech) and M. Sc. (tech) with 15 years of specialized experience in water supply systems.
His educational background includes:
- Doctor of Science in Technology (D. Sc. tech)
- Master of Science in Technology (M. Sc. tech)
Rossi's research spans Water supply, Water security, Sanitation, and Urban water management, with concentrated expertise in groundwater resources management, wastewater network integrity, water quality/quantity monitoring for risk assessment, and digitalization. His work is fundamentally interdisciplinary, actively collaborating with ICT specialists, sociologists, ecologists, and geologists to address complex environmental challenges. This approach integrates technical engineering with social and ecological dimensions of water systems.
With 56 international publications, Rossi leads the Water Supply and Wastewater Engineering research group and currently supervises 6 PhD students alongside 5-9 Master's theses annually. His research trajectory demonstrates consistent growth in sustainable water infrastructure solutions, particularly through international collaborations and real-world project implementation.
Rossi's scientific contributions are recognized through active participation in major initiatives including:
- WaterFall
- ArcticSewlutions
- WATCON
- KAVENERO (focusing on energy-efficient district heating and water supply integration for urban green transition)
He directs the Water Supply and Wastewater Engineering research group within the WE3 unit, which pioneers innovative methodologies for water resource management in northern environments, emphasizing climate resilience and technological adaptation through projects like the Digital Waters Flagship.
