Dr. Stephanie Gauthier is an Associate Professor in Energy and Buildings and Director of Recruitment at the School of Engineering, University of Southampton. She holds a PhD in Energy and the Built Environment from University College London and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her research focuses on energy demand in buildings, particularly occupants' behaviors and thermal comfort, with projects spanning flexible demand-side management, low-carbon technologies, and district heating networks. She leads the UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for Sustainability, training 70 PhD students in AI-driven environmental solutions.
Her current projects include the EPSRC-funded LATENT project (Residential Heat as an Energy System Service) and the Low Carbon Comfort Centre. She teaches Building Physics and Statistics on MSc programs and serves as a Design Tutor for Civil Engineering undergraduates. She has supervised 4 PhD students and contributed to interdisciplinary collaborations, including the EU-funded THERMOSS project.
Her awards include the FHEA, recognizing her academic leadership and pedagogical excellence. Her work bridges engineering, behavioral science, and environmental policy, addressing global challenges in sustainable energy systems and urban resilience.
