Janus Laust Thomsen is a Clinical Professor at the Center for General Medicine within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Aalborg University. He works at Aalborg University Hospital and is actively involved in the PRIMA: Center for Primary Sector Research. His research focuses on artificial intelligence in general practice, point-of-care ultrasound, and well-being among children and young people.
Thomsen's research fingerprint includes major contributions to General Practice (100%), Primary Health Care (58%), and Chronic Pain Management (38%). He has led and co-led multiple projects including Machine learning in general practice (2023), Point-of-care ultrasound in early pregnancy (2022), and Well-being in children (2020).
His recent publications (2023-2025) emphasize AI implementation, fibromyalgia interventions, and diagnostic ultrasound in primary care. He received the Magda M. Friederichs og Svend Aage Friederichs Mindelegat in 2004. Thomsen serves on the Research Board of the Danish Rheumatism Association and Advisory Board for BMBF (since 2019).
He has advised on systematic reviews about shared decision-making in chronic pain management and dermatology training in general practice across Europe. His work addresses health equity through debates on individualized care versus universal approaches.
