Simon Kristoffer Johansen is a Researcher and PhD candidate affiliated with the Department of Health Science and Technology at Aalborg University. His primary role involves patient education research focusing on adolescents with musculoskeletal conditions, emphasizing user-involvement and co-creation methodologies. He holds a Master of Arts in Information Science (2015) and a Bachelor of Arts in Human-Centered Informatics (2012), both from the Department of Communication and Psychology at Aalborg University.
His research integrates design research, qualitative methodologies, and interdisciplinary theories to develop healthcare tools that empower young patients in self-care. Key areas include mobile health (mHealth) applications, chronic pain management, and healthcare communication. He has contributed to 14 projects, including the HEYoung Intervention Study and the SHARE IT initiative, which focus on improving care coordination and patient-clinician collaboration for adolescents and families.
Johansen has published 43 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work exploring barriers to mHealth adherence, clinical support tools for knee pain management, and outcome domains in chronic pain. He received the Magda og Svend Aage Friederichs Mindelegat award in 2025 for his research contributions. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and good health.
