Janne Kaisto

Janne Kaisto is a Professor at the University of Lapland's Faculty of Law, Department of Law, Technology and Sustainability Transitions. His research focuses on private law intersections with technology and sustainability, particularly in blockchain, digital assets, and climate policy frameworks. He leads the ESF-funded Powered by blockchain project (2020-2023) exploring legal implications of distributed ledger technologies.

Research interests include cryptocurrency regulation, carbon credit ownership, and co-ownership disputes. Notable publications address NFT legal frameworks, investor protection in insolvency scenarios, and Finnish civil law applications to emerging technologies. Kaisto has been recognized with the 2019 Defensor Legisin Award and 2022 Environmental Jurisprudence Prize.

He actively participates in Nordic legal symposiums and delivers invited lectures on blockchain business regulation, carbon markets, and digital art copyright. His work bridges traditional legal theory with modern technological challenges, emphasizing sustainable governance solutions.
