Zachary L. Catanzaro is an Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Intellectual Property Certificate Program at St. Thomas University College of Law. His work bridges law, technology, and creative innovation, focusing on emerging technologies' legal implications. He holds a B.A. in Entrepreneurial Management and Marketing from Florida Atlantic University, and a J.D. from St. Thomas University School of Law.
Professor Catanzaro’s research explores AI, blockchain, cryptocurrency, and cyberlaw. His scholarship, including seminal works like Algorithmic Dead Hands (Fordham IP Media & Entertainment Law Journal) and forthcoming Algorithmic Deathworlds, examines how technologies challenge traditional legal frameworks. He has published in leading journals such as the Harvard Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law and NYU Journal of Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law.
As Academic Chair of the Florida Bar’s Blockchain & Digital Assets and eDiscovery Committees, he influences state policy on technology regulation. His interdisciplinary background in music performance and law uniquely informs his teaching and research on digital creative rights and NFTs.
He formerly practiced corporate cyberlaw and intellectual property litigation, advising tech startups and entrepreneurs. His current research investigates AI’s impact on property rights and creative ownership in the digital age.
