Michael Murray is the Spears Gilbert Associate Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky’s J. David Rosenberg College of Law, where he has taught full-time since 2018. Previously, he held visiting professor roles at multiple institutions, including the University of Michigan and Cambridge University, and practiced commercial litigation at Bryan Cave in St. Louis. He earned his JD from Columbia Law School (Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar) and a BA from Loyola College in Maryland. His research focuses on AI’s impact on law, copyright, art law, and legal technology, with notable work on generative AI ethics, NFTs, and blockchain law. He has authored 27 books and over 70 articles, including influential pieces on fair use in AI-generated art and regulatory frameworks for deepfakes. Murray leads the University of Kentucky’s AI and Law Project and Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, and Metaverse Law Project, advancing interdisciplinary legal scholarship. His teaching emphasizes visual rhetoric and proactive legal communication, blending traditional law with modern digital challenges.
