Brian L. Frye is the Spears-Gilbert Associate Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky's J. David Rosenberg College of Law. He specializes in intellectual property, legal history, and art law, with notable work on blockchain, plagiarism, and museum deaccessioning. Frye holds a BA from UC Berkeley, an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, and a JD from NYU Law.
His research integrates legal theory with artistic practice, including conceptual art in legal scholarship. He has authored over 100 articles and co-authored Professional Responsibility: An Open-Source Casebook. Frye’s artistic work includes the documentary Our Nixon, featured at SXSW and CNN, and installations in the Whitney Museum’s permanent collection.
