Janine Duncan

Janine Duncan serves as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue University, specializing in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Education. Previously, she held faculty positions at Kansas State University, Murray State University, and Fontbonne University, with extensive K-12 teaching experience in home economics and professional development coordination at the St. Louis Science Center.

She investigates foundational perspectives, teacher educator recruitment and retention, and the integration of Inclusion, Access, Equity, and Diversity (IAED) principles. Her work aims to transform FCS education through justice-oriented curriculum and pedagogy, addressing systemic challenges in the field.

Her recent publications (2017-2022) analyze equity in FCS, professional development for educators, and curriculum evaluation using critical science. Key trends include addressing educator shortages, positioning FCS within Career and Technical Education (CTE), and developing practical intellectual communities for justice-focused practice.

She has been honored with multiple awards:

As Vice President for the Region of the Americas and United Nations Representative for the International Federation for Home Economics, she advances global FCS priorities. She also co-chairs the 2022 World Congress and the Say Yes to FCS National Educator Recruitment Initiative.
