Dr. Janice Waldron is a Professor of Music Education at the University of Windsor, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. Her research focuses on informal music learning, online music communities, social media's role in music education, and participatory cultures. She co-authored the Oxford Handbook of Social Media and Music Learning and has contributed to journals like Music Education Research and International Journal of Music Education.
Her work examines digital sociology, networked music communities, and the impact of platforms like YouTube and TikTok on music learning. Notable studies include explorations of Canadian-Scottish pipe bands, adult music learners in blended communities, and theoretical frameworks for participatory culture.
Dr. Waldron serves on editorial boards for multiple journals and is the website editor for the MayDay Group. Her 2012 award as ‘Outstanding Researcher: Emerging Scholar’ at the University of Windsor highlights her contributions to music education research.
