Professor Janice Kiely is the co-founder and director of the Institute of Bio-sensing Technology (IBST), part of the Faculty of Environment & Technology at the University of the West of England. She holds a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowship and leads the IBST's flagship international conference on bio-sensing technology, sponsored by Elsevier. Her research focuses on developing novel bio-sensing instrumentation, with over 20 industry-academic collaborations in the past five years.
Key roles include Principal Investigator of the £4M South West Microelectronics iNet and co-director of the £2M Alternative Testing and In-Vitro Monitoring Business Technology Centre. Her expertise spans magnetometer immunoassay technology for pathogen detection, saliva-based point-of-care sensors for COPD monitoring, and graphene-based electrochemical sensors for environmental hormone detection.
Recent publications highlight advancements in electrochemical detection of propofol, interleukin biomarkers, and estradiol monitoring in water. Awards include the Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowship. She leads multidisciplinary teams addressing global challenges in healthcare and environmental safety through innovative biosensor technologies.
