Janette K. Hanson serves as an Instructor in the Theatre and Musical Theatre department at Viterbo University's Conservatory for the Performing Arts, with prior faculty roles at UW-LaCrosse and Sparta High School.
Her academic credentials include:
- Bachelor of Music Education from Central Missouri State University
- Master's degree in Education from UW-LaCrosse
Hanson specializes in vocal jazz pedagogy, musical theatre coaching, and classical/jazz performance techniques. Her expertise spans ensemble direction, vocal coaching, and accompaniment, with significant contributions to vocal jazz education through clinics, festivals, and honor choir leadership.
Her accolades feature the Kohl’s Teacher Fellowship Award (2009), selection as conductor for the WI All-State Vocal Jazz ensemble (2020), and roles as clinician for Jazz on the Rock (2016) and judge for Iowa High School Music Association festivals (2017, 2019).
Hanson mentors vocalists who achieve honors at NATS, Classical Singer Competition, and ACDA events. She maintains a private studio for voice/piano instruction and performs with local jazz ensembles and her husband.
Active in professional organizations including VoiceCare Network, American Choral Directors Association, and Music Teachers National Association, she previously chaired WCDA Vocal Jazz Repertoire and Standards and coordinated All-State Vocal Jazz programs.
