Janet Wang is an Associate Professor at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, affiliated with the Faculty of Culture + Community. She holds a BFA from the University of British Columbia and an MA in Studio Practice from the University of Leeds. A second-generation Chinese Canadian settler, Wang’s work addresses questions of belonging and representation through reimagined art historical narratives and community engagement.
Her research includes projects like Ports of Entry, examining Chinese Canadian migration history, and in/visible, a public installation critiquing cultural erasure. She has exhibited internationally and received residencies from institutions including the Arts Council of England and Wassaic Project. Wang has also been awarded grants from the SSHRC, BC Arts Council, and Canada Council for the Arts.
As an educator, she has taught at Emily Carr University, Langara College, and the Art Institute of Vancouver. Her public art projects include installations in Vancouver, Ottawa, and Richmond, often addressing urban and cultural landscapes. Awards include the Insight Development Grant (2025–2027) and the Rize Prize (2007).
