معرفی
Janet M Fischer is the Dr. E. Paul & Frances H. Reiff Professor of Biology and Department Chair of Biology at Franklin & Marshall College. Her research focuses on limnology, ecology of alpine lakes, ecosystem resilience, and zooplankton behavior. She collaborates with her husband, Mark Olson, leading the Fischer-Olson Lab, which studies mountain lake ecosystems in Yoho and Banff National Parks. Their work investigates how glacial retreat, vegetation changes, and climate shifts impact lake transparency, water quality, and plankton communities. The lab employs long-term datasets and advanced sensor technology for high-frequency monitoring.
Education includes a B.A. from Wellesley College and M.S./Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. Fischer teaches courses such as Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (BIO 101) and Experimental Design in Biology (BIO 310). Her research emphasizes the interplay between environmental drivers and ecological processes, with a focus on alpine lake resilience.
Publications highlight her work on UV radiation effects on zooplankton behavior, climate change impacts on Daphnia populations, and dissolved organic matter dynamics. She has mentored students like Nora Theodore Hwang and N. Theodore in field and lab research. Current projects explore wildfire smoke impacts, glacial solute concentrations, and ecosystem responses to environmental stressors.
