Janet E. Perkins

Dr. Janet E. Perkins is a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh's School of Social and Political Science, specifically within the Department of Social Anthropology. Her work bridges social anthropology and global health, with a focus on South Asian contexts and broader low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Perkins' research explores themes including:

• Maternal and child healthcare practices
• Biomedical technology social dynamics
• Health market brokerage systems
• Poisoning diagnosis and treatment
• Development policy implementation

Her recent awards include the UKRI Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Postdoctoral Fellowship (2023) and the Tweedie Exploration Fellowship (2019-2020). Current projects focus on Medicalised maternities, markets and moralities in Bangladesh funded by the ESRC (2023-2024).
