Professor Janet Davies is a distinguished academic and researcher at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), where she serves as Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Health. She holds several leadership positions including Head of the Allergy Research Group and Associate Dean of Research for the Faculty of Health. Previously, she served as Director of the QoVAX SET Program in Metro North Health (2021-2023) and Assistant Director of Research (2016-2021) at Metro North Health. Her academic credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy in Biological Sciences from Murdoch University and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
Professor Davies has established herself as an internationally renowned expert in allergy research with over 25 years of experience in the hospital and health sector. Her research spans molecular allergen characterisation, immunity to allergens and viruses, and environmental health. She has made significant contributions to aerobiology, particularly in grass pollen research, with her work leading to the establishment of Australia's national standardized pollen monitoring and forecast network through the NHMRC AusPollen Partnership (2016-2020). Her research program integrates immunology, environmental science, and public health to address allergic respiratory diseases.
The analysis of Professor Davies' recent publications reveals a consistent focus on aerobiology, allergy diagnostics, and the environmental determinants of allergic diseases. Her work demonstrates a progression from fundamental molecular allergen characterisation to applied public health solutions, including the development of diagnostic tools and national monitoring systems. Notably, her research increasingly addresses the intersection of climate change, urbanization, and allergic disease patterns, reflecting the evolving challenges in environmental health.
- Project Steering Committee for Victorian Department of Health and Human Services and Bureau of Meteorology Thunderstorm Asthma Pollen Forecasting Service (2017)
- EAACI Task Force on Component Resolved Diagnostics (2015)
- Co-author of chapters in EAACI Handbook of Molecular Allergology (2015)
- Contributing author to Global Atlas of Allergy (2014)
Professor Davies has secured significant research funding including National Health and Medical Research Council grants, Australian Research Council Discovery grants, and ARC Linkage projects. Her research partnerships span global leaders in allergy diagnosis (ThermoFisher Scientific, Sweden), Abionic Switzerland, Stallergenes Greer (France), Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, and Abacus dx. She currently serves as Discovery and Biorepository Pillar Lead and co-chair of the Respiratory Research Stream for the National Allergy Centre of Excellence. Her supervisory portfolio includes PhD candidates investigating the public health impacts of grass pollen exposures.
Professor Davies leads the Allergy Research Group at QUT and has been instrumental in establishing the Australian Aerobiology Working Group (2013) and the wider AusPollen Aeroallergen Collaboration Network. Her work bridges academic research, clinical application, and public health policy, with significant contributions to the WHO IUIS Allergen Nomenclature Committee (2016-2021) and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Inquiry on Allergy and Anaphylaxis (2020).
