Professor Janet Brown is a Professor of Translational Medical Oncology at the University of Sheffield and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at Sheffield NHS Foundation Trust. She holds a Chair in Medical Oncology and leads the Clinical Bone Oncology and Biomarkers Group. Her research focuses on skeletal health in cancer patients, urological cancers, and innovative treatment pathways, including immunotherapy. She has over 170 peer-reviewed publications and £15M+ in grants. Key achievements include the STAR trial demonstrating treatment breaks in kidney cancer and leading the CARBON trial. She chairs international societies and trains clinical academics.
Education: BMedSci, MBBS, MSc, MD, FRCP. Research interests include bone metastasis mechanisms, biomarkers, and clinical trial design. Awards include the ASCO Pain Merit Award (2003) and Cancer Research UK Fellowship (2008–2014). Grants include NIHR Phase III trials and Yorkshire Cancer Research funding for digital health programs.
Her work on adjuvant bisphosphonates in breast cancer contributed to a 4* Impact Case in the UK REF. She leads initiatives to reduce immunotherapy toxicity and improve patient care through digital pathways. Active in global oncology networks, she advocates for clinical academic training and interdisciplinary collaboration.
