Janelle Jones is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Agnes Scott College, where she contributes to the training of future mental health professionals. She holds a PhD in Counselor Education from the University of Alabama, a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Indiana University. She is board certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and maintains active roles in key professional associations.

Her research centers on racial trauma across the lifespan, particularly within Black baby boomer populations, and extends into social justice, gerontological counseling, fat liberation, and qualitative methodologies. Dr. Jones is a prolific contributor to the counseling field, with numerous publications, book chapters, and over 30 national, regional, and international conference presentations. Her work reflects a strong commitment to multicultural competence and social advocacy in counseling education and practice.

Dr. Jones is actively involved in professional service, currently serving as President of the Association for Adult Development and Aging (AADA). She is also a member of the American Counseling Association, Counselors for Social Justice, and the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development. Her clinical experience includes counseling individuals across the lifespan in recovery settings and providing mental health support to college students. She is deeply committed to mentoring emerging professionals and students in the field.
She maintains affiliations with professional networks that support adult development, aging, and social justice advocacy. Her leadership in AADA highlights her dedication to advancing knowledge and practices related to adult development across diverse populations.
