Jane Woodward is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, where she has taught since 1991. She contributes to courses like 'Understand Energy' and 'Stanford Climate Ventures,' and serves on the Precourt Institute for Energy Advisory Council. Her academic work focuses on energy-environment intersections, supported by her extensive industry experience.
Education: BS in Geology from UC Santa Barbara; MS in Engineering and Petroleum Geology, and MBA from Stanford University. Professional background includes roles as an exploration geologist with ARCO Exploration, petroleum engineering consultant for Stanford's endowment, and founder of MAP Energy (1987–present), a pioneering energy investment firm. She also co-founded WovenEarth Ventures, a climate venture fund of funds.
Outside academia, Woodward established The Foster Museum in Palo Alto to promote environmental awareness through art. Her career spans oil/gas royalties, renewable energy investments (wind, solar, storage), and early-stage climate tech funding. MAP Energy's transition from fossil fuels to renewables exemplifies her adaptive strategy in energy markets.
