Donald Wood is a Lecturer in Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB), where he teaches courses on entrepreneurship, sustainable energy, and climate tech innovation. Alongside his academic role, he serves as Managing Director Emeritus at DFJ, a venture capital firm, and holds venture partnerships and advisory roles with B Capital, Energy Impact Partners, and Piva Capital. With over 25 years in venture capital, Wood has invested in over 500 technology startups, including 40 billion-dollar ventures such as Tesla, SpaceX, SolarCity, and Twilio. He has expanded DFJ's global network to multiple countries and served on 15 public and private boards.
Wood earned his BA in Economics (1976) and MBA (1980) from Stanford University. His career spans roles as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, executive in tech firms like Octel Communications and Metricom, and founder of Wood-Howard Products. His research focuses on fostering innovation in sustainable energy and integrating Stanford’s sustainability initiatives to address climate challenges.
Teaching highlights include courses like Climate Tech for Rapid Decarbonization and Clean Energy Opportunities: Business Models and Innovations. He emphasizes practical industry experience in curriculum design, leveraging his extensive board and venture capital expertise.
