Ernestine Fu Mak is a Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, and Co-Director of the Frontier Technology Lab, an initiative under the Stanford School of Engineering and Doerr School of Sustainability. She teaches interdisciplinary courses on frontier technology, circular economy, autonomous vehicles, entrepreneurship, and venture capital. Alongside academia, she serves as Managing Partner at Brave Capital and Venture Partner at Alsop Louie Partners, focusing on startup ecosystem strategy, venture debt advising, and scaling founder ventures.
Her education includes B.S., M.S., MBA, Ph.D., and a postdoc at Stanford University, where she graduated with Tau Beta Pi and Phi Beta Kappa honors. Notable academic achievements include the Kennedy Prize and Terman Award. Her research focuses on human-autonomous vehicle interactions, system bias, and policy for sustainable futures.
Ernestine is a co-author of “Civic Work, Civic Lessons” (promoting civic engagement) and “Renewed Energy” (guiding sustainable policy). She actively serves on boards of nonprofits like the Ad Council and California 100. Recognized for leadership in technology and entrepreneurship, she advocates for democratic participation and ethical technology integration.
