Jane Tylus is the Andrew Downey Orrick Professor of Italian and Professor of Comparative Literature at Yale University. Her work focuses on late medieval and early modern European literature, with a emphasis on marginalized voices, translation theory, and gender studies. She has held academic leadership roles, including Founding Faculty Director of NYU's Humanities Initiative.

Her research explores intersections between literature and historical context, particularly in works by figures like Catherine of Siena and Lucrezia Tornabuoni. Current projects include studies on Renaissance departures, linguistic hospitality, and agrarian representations in art and literature.
Key awards include the Howard Marraro Prize (MLA) and the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women’s Translation Award.
She has co-edited major volumes such as Epic Traditions in the Contemporary World and The Longman Anthology of World Literature. Ongoing work includes Early Modern Cultures of Translation and Peasant/Literature: Representations of Agrarian Work.
