Jane Metrik is a Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Psychiatry and Human Behavior (Research) at Brown University, with a joint appointment as a research scientist and licensed clinical psychologist at the Providence VA Medical Center. Her research focuses on cannabis behavioral pharmacology, comorbid substance use disorders, and clinical trials examining mechanisms influencing cannabis use disorder and related psychiatric conditions. She directs NIH- and VA-funded programs, including cannabinoid-based pain treatment studies in veterans. Dr. Metrik trains postdoctoral fellows and psychology residents, mentors career development awards, and collaborates with leading researchers in addiction studies.
Education: Ph.D., Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at University of California, San Diego/San Diego State University (2004). Completed clinical psychology internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Brown’s Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS).
Research Interests: Cannabis pharmacology, ecological momentary assessment, comorbidity of substance use and mental health disorders, and behavioral interventions for veterans. Over 50 peer-reviewed publications address cannabis’s effects on alcohol use, co-occurring disorders, and treatment outcomes.
Grants & Funding: Principal investigator on NIH grants R01AA029711, R01DA053087, and R01DA055654, plus VA grants I01HX002699 and I01CX002378. Her work integrates behavioral economics and clinical trials to advance evidence-based treatments.
