Jane Mertz Garcia is a Professor in the Department of Applied Human Sciences at Kansas State University, affiliated with the College of Health and Human Sciences. She holds the Jack and Ruth Rice Distinguished Professorship and is an Asha Fellow. Her expertise focuses on communication and swallowing disorders caused by neurological conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, and diseases.
- Education: Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders (University of South Alabama), M.S. in Speech Pathology (University of Nebraska-Lincoln), B.S. in Speech Pathology and Audiology (Kansas State University).
Her research emphasizes dysphagia, studying thickened liquids' impact on swallowing, flavor/texture characteristics, and clinical staff training. She also develops public education programs for TBI awareness. Over 15 research publications include contributions from K-State students. She teaches courses like Neurological Basis of Communication and Swallowing Disorders and Neuromotor Speech Disorders.
