Jane Hershey is a Lecturer in the Department of Music at Tufts University, where she has directed the Early Music Ensemble since 1995. She holds affiliations with the Longy School of Music of Bard College and teaches viola da gamba and chamber music at the Powers Music School in Belmont, MA. Hershey’s professional career spans performances with renowned ensembles such as the Boston Camerata, Boston Baroque, and Arcadia Players, specializing in early music and Baroque repertoire.
Her education includes studies at the Longy School of Music and The Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She has collaborated on recordings of works by composers like Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and Samuel Capricornus, and directed significant projects such as the 'Wieland Kuijken Residency' workshop in 2011. Hershey is actively involved in music education, serving on the Board of Directors of the Viola da Gamba Society of America and organizing workshops like the 2014 'Lawes-a-thon.'
Her research and performance interests focus on early music revival, viol instruments, and interdisciplinary collaborations bridging historical performance practices with modern pedagogy.
