Jane Greaves is an Associate Professor at the Nursing Midwifery and Health Department of Northumbria University, with expertise in patient safety, interprofessional education, and healthcare workforce dynamics. She holds a PhD (2017) from Northumbria University exploring early warning scoring systems in healthcare, alongside an MSc in Research Methods (2000-2009) and a BSc in Nursing Science (1996). Her research focuses on improving healthcare outcomes through better clinical protocols, interprofessional collaboration, and patient safety education.
Research interests include veteran healthcare, caregiver-patient communication, and improving care home learning environments for nursing students. She has led projects on nurse staffing levels' impact on patient outcomes and contributed to initiatives like the NHS Early Warning Scoring System implementation. Awards include the Interprofessional.Global Award (2023) and Nursing Times 3M Prize (1998).
Greaves actively engages in academic leadership roles, including chairing the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death committee (2023-2024) and serving on the NHS-E/I NEWS2 Steering committee. She supervises research activities and collaborates internationally, notably with the University of Genoa (2025 visit). Current grants include studies on healthcare worker fatigue and autism care pathways.
