Dr. Jane Cross is a Professor at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and holds an Honorary Associate Professor role at the University of Exeter. She is affiliated with the School of Health Sciences, Population Health, and Volunteering and Health and Social Care Steering Committee at UEA. Her research focuses on mixed-methods studies addressing older adults' complexities in later life, particularly dementia care, healthcare innovation, and respiratory physiotherapy.
Education: Chartered Physiotherapist (1985), MSc Health Sciences (UEA, 1999), Doctor of Education (UEA, 2005). She has held roles such as Course Director for BSc Physiotherapy (2000–2005) and School Teaching Director (2005–present).
Research Interests: Complex interventions for older adults, dementia care optimization, and respiratory physiotherapy. She leads projects like the NIHR-funded CARECOACH (dementia carer support) and the PERFECKED programme (hip fracture care for dementia patients).
Awards: UK Awards for Allied Health Professionals (2006), British Thoracic Society Silver Jubilee Award (2007), Intensive Care Society Innovation Award, and HSJ Awards recognition for pandemic-era critical care training.
Grants/Projects: Active grants include Motor Neurone Disease Association-funded work and NIHR projects on social prescribing for dementia patients. She collaborates on international outcome measurement initiatives for brachial plexus injuries.
Teaching: Supervises PhD students and teaches research methods. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
