Jane Chambers is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Environmental and Conservation Sciences, Murdoch University, and Director of NatureLink Perth. She specializes in wetland ecology, focusing on aquatic and riparian plants, nutrient dynamics, salinity, and climate change impacts on freshwater ecosystems. Her work bridges academic research with community engagement, particularly in conserving urban biodiversity and endangered species like the freshwater turtle Chelodina oblonga.
She leads NatureLink Perth, a community initiative promoting nature-linked urban design to conserve biodiversity in the southwest Australian biodiversity hotspot. Her research emphasizes translational science, ensuring practical outcomes for management agencies and communities. Notable projects include the Saving Our Snake-Necked Turtle program, which combines citizen science with scientific rigor to protect nesting turtles from predators and habitat loss.
Dr. Chambers has over 30 years of experience in wetland restoration and transdisciplinary collaboration, evidenced by her work with the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF) and the Swan River Trust. She holds the Hilary Jolly Medal (2018) for limnological excellence and the Murdoch University Vice Chancellor’s Award (2022) for community-impact research.
Her academic affiliations include the Harry Butler Institute and the Centre for Terrestrial Ecosystem Science and Sustainability. She actively engages students in real-world environmental challenges, fostering the next generation of ecological researchers and practitioners.
