Dr Jane Bellemore is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in Classics at the University of Newcastle, Australia, within the School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences. She specialises in the historiography of the Late Roman Republic and the Julio-Claudian period, with particular focus on Cicero, Tiberius, and early imperial historians.

Research Interests:
Dr Bellemore's research spans the interpretation of Roman historical texts from the Late Republic to the Early Empire. Her work includes detailed studies of Nicolaus of Damascus, Cicero, Valerius Maximus, Josephus, Plutarch, Appian and Dio Cassius. She has also contributed to debates on the Plague of Athens as described by Thucydides. Beyond research, she is deeply engaged in Latin pedagogy and has taught across a wide range of historical periods including the Late Bronze Age Aegean, Archaic Greece, Fifth-century Athens, the Middle and Late Roman Republic, and the Early Roman Empire.
Publications & Trends:
Her publication record includes two books, eight book chapters, twenty-one journal articles and two reviews. The articles reflect a consistent focus on re-evaluating key sources for Roman history, particularly historiographical narratives of the Late Republic and Early Principate. Themes include political biography, chronology, and the rhetorical construction of historical events.
