Jane Bahnson is a Senior Lecturing Fellow at Duke Law School, affiliated with the Goodson Law Library. She joined Duke in July 2010 and serves as Assistant Director for Research and Instruction Services, co-teaching Legal Analysis, Research and Writing while coordinating the Empirical Legal Research Program.
- Education: J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center; M.S.L.S. from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; B.S. in Nutrition Science from University of California at Berkeley
- Professional Background: Practiced law in products liability and business law at a large California firm; former clinical research dietitian at NIH
Her research explores legal protections for genetic and medical information privacy, informed by her dual expertise in nutrition science and law. She co-authored a chapter on nutritional supportive care in pediatric oncology, integrating her clinical and legal backgrounds.
Recent publications examine intersections of law with civil rights, pandemic policy in Asia, DNA privacy in public libraries, and pedagogical approaches to legal research instruction. These works span legal scholarship, public health law, and bioethics.
Jane contributes to legal education through course development and research support, teaching courses like Advanced Legal Research Workshop and Research Methods in Administrative Law. She is actively engaged with the American Association of Law Libraries and California State Bar.
