Janaki Amin is a Professor of Public Health at Macquarie University, affiliated with the Department of Health Sciences and the Smart Green Cities Research Centre. She holds additional roles as Director of the Epidemiology and Systems Branch at the NSW Ministry of Health and Visiting Professor at The Kirby Institute. Her research focuses on infectious diseases epidemiology, marginalized populations, and public health impact assessment, particularly through data linkage studies and clinical trials. She led the Master of Public Health course (2017–2023) and has mentored numerous students.
Educational Background: BSc (Hons), MPH (Hons), PhD from UNSW and the University of Sydney. She has secured over $20M in research grants and published over 200 articles. Key projects include APPRISE (infectious disease response), ETHOS III (hepatitis C treatment), and evaluations of medical technologies for the Australian Government.
Research Interests: Data linkage methodologies, HIV/HCV/STI therapies, pandemic impact analysis (e.g., COVID-19), and health equity for underserved groups. Awards include the 2022 Macquarie Business School Impact Competition for healthcare evaluation work.
Current advisees include PhD candidates Kristy Burns and Alexandr Bhatti, and MPH students Saskia van der Kooi and Teejay Santos. Major grants include projects on digital health and pharmaceutical benefits advisory evaluations.
External roles include membership in the National Health and Medical Research Council and leadership in regional training programs in Australia, Indonesia, and Cambodia.
