Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiologyمعرفی
Jana Milucka is a Research Fellow and Group Leader of the Greenhouse Gases Research Group at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen. Her work focuses on microbial cycling of methane and nitrous oxide in freshwater lakes and coastal oceans, anaerobic microbial metabolism, and microbial symbioses. She employs advanced single-cell imaging techniques like nanoSIMS and Raman microscopy to study microbial processes in situ.
Her research addresses how microorganisms adapt to low-oxygen environments, particularly their roles in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and nutrient cycling. Key areas include aerobic methanotrophy in anoxic waters, symbiotic relationships between prokaryotes and eukaryotes, and the metabolic versatility of anaerobic organisms. Recent studies highlight subseasonal variability in freshwater methane production and the impact of microplastics on marine carbon sequestration.
Dr. Milucka collaborates internationally on projects such as biochar applications in agriculture and the genetic potential of endosymbionts. Her work contributes to understanding global biogeochemical cycles and climate mitigation strategies.
