Jan Schillmöller

Jan Schillmöller is an Associated Researcher at the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt), where he conducts doctoral research within the project 'Challenges in the regulation of digital communication platforms' (ReDiKo). He holds a law degree from the University of Münster, specializing in information, telecommunications, and media law, and has completed his first state examination.

Research Focus: His work centers on regulatory frameworks for digital ecosystems, with emphasis on:

• Copyright law reforms and transparency obligations under EU directives (CDSM/DSA)
• Governance of disinformation, hate speech, and digital violence
• Interdisciplinary approaches combining legal analysis with communication science
• Platform accountability mechanisms and user rights protection

Publications: Schillmöller's 13 recent works (2021-2025) critically examine platform regulation trends, predominantly analyzing legal instruments like the Digital Services Act and copyright reforms. His outputs—spanning journals, books, and policy reports—consistently address tensions between innovation, fundamental rights, and regulatory efficacy in digital spaces.

Project Leadership: As a core contributor to the ReDiKo project, he develops evidence-based policy options for regulating video platforms and digital communication environments.
