Prof. Dr. Jan Retelsdorf is a Professor of Educational Science at the University of Hamburg's Faculty of Education, specializing in the psychology of learning and teaching. He holds a PhD in Psychology from the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (2009) and a Diplom in Psychology from the University of Bielefeld (2006). His research focuses on language competence in learning contexts, judgment biases in educational settings, and motivation/self-regulation in educational environments. Key projects include investigating teacher expectations' impact on student outcomes, gender stereotypes in textbooks, and cyberhate dynamics among adolescents in conflict zones.
Recent work includes studies on academic language demands in higher education, cross-cultural conceptions of third-party intervention in childhood, and the role of prior knowledge in vocational training. He serves as an Associate Editor for Learning and Instruction and contributes to editorial boards of several psychology journals.
