Jan Pacholski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Literature Didactics at the Institute of Germanic Philology, University of Wrocław. Born in 1973 in Wrocław, he completed his German Studies degree at the same university and has been a research and teaching staff member since 2005. He earned his doctorate in 2005 with a thesis on Theodor Fontane's war correspondence, supervised by Prof. Wojciech Kunicki. His academic roles include chairing the Polish Section of the Theodor Fontane Society and supervising the Student Scientific Circle of Germanists.
His research explores interdisciplinary connections between literature, geography, and history, with a regional focus on Silesia. Primary interests include:
- 18th–19th century Silesian literary and cultural history
- Mountain symbolism in literature (Sudetes, Harz, Alps, Šumava)
- Travel narratives within Silesian contexts
- Realism-era literary analysis
- Comparative studies of literature and music
He has authored numerous scholarly articles and a seminal Polish monograph on Theodor Fontane (2014), alongside co-editing poetry anthologies and translations of contemporary German works.
