Urszula Kawalec serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of German, Austrian and Swiss Literature of the 19th and 20th Centuries at the Institute of Germanic Philology, University of Wrocław, where she specializes in modern German-language literary traditions.
She completed her German studies at the University of Wrocław and Berlin (1986-1991) and earned her doctorate from the University of Wrocław in 2001 with a dissertation titled "Zum Weltbild im Werk von Richard Beer-Hofmann" (On the Worldview in the Work of Richard Beer-Hofmann). Her academic development was further enriched through research stays in Vienna, Berlin, and Münster.
Her research focuses on:
- Viennese Modernism and its cultural contexts
- German literary production in Silesia during the 19th-20th century transition
- Wrocław-centered autobiographical narratives
- Gender theory applications in literary analysis
She actively contributes to academic communities as a member of the Association of Polish Germanists and the German-Polish Society of the University of Wrocław, and serves as secretary of the Polish Society named after Gerhart Hauptmann, demonstrating sustained engagement in German-Polish scholarly exchange.
