Jan Hohenstein is a Lecturer in German Studies at Texas Tech University (TTU), located at the CMLL Building in Lubbock, TX. He holds a Master of Arts in German Literature from Universität Konstanz (2013), a Bachelor of Arts in German Studies from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (2009), and is completing his PhD in Philosophy at SUNY Binghamton with a dissertation titled “Man Has Limits”: Adalbert Stifter and the End of the Enlightenment.
His research focuses on 18th-19th century European literature/philosophy, particularly the Enlightenment's legacy in Austrian literature. He teaches German language courses (GERM 1501, GERM 2301) emphasizing linguistic proficiency and cultural exposure. Courses integrate practical language skills with exploration of German-speaking cultures.

Hohenstein has taught at Binghamton University and in the Netherlands, emphasizing experiential learning. His doctoral work examines Adalbert Stifter's writings through Enlightenment/Counter-Enlightenment frameworks, analyzing the evolution of philosophical thought in Austrian literary contexts.
