Jan Gadeyne is a Professor at Temple University Rome specializing in the archaeology and history of Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. He has taught for multiple American study abroad programs since 1988, including institutions like Cornell, Yale, and Princeton. His courses cover Roman art, urban history, and archaeological fieldwork, particularly focusing on Rome's Aurelian Walls and the Artena villa excavations.
Research Interests:
- Urban history of Rome from antiquity to the Middle Ages
- Late antique and early Byzantine art and architecture
- Evolution of Roman street systems
- Lead seals and epigraphic studies
Publications Highlights: Co-edited Perspectives on Public Space in Rome (Ashgate, 2013). His excavation reports on the Artena villa (2003-2013) document Roman domestic structures and post-Roman transformations. Earlier work includes studies on Christian apse mosaics and Roman provincial seals.
