Prof. Jan-Friedrich Missfelder holds an SNSF Professorship in Early Modern History at the University of Basel's Department of History. He leads the research project 'Power of the Voice,' exploring vocal media in early modern Europe. Previously, he held roles at the University of Zurich, including senior researcher in the National Center of Competence in Research 'Mediality' and coordinator of the doctoral program. His research focuses on sensory history, Reformation studies, and media transitions, with a current project analyzing the Zurich Reformation through sensory and medial lenses.
Education: Studied history, musicology, and political science at Göttingen, Leicester, and Humboldt University Berlin (PhD 2008 on French political ideas around 1600).
