Jan Egil Afset is a Professor of Medical Microbiology at the Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine, NTNU, and a Senior Consultant at St. Olav's Hospital's Department of Medical Microbiology. He leads research in sepsis, bacteremia, and infectious disease diagnostics through the Mid-Norwegian Center for Sepsis Research. His work focuses on pathogenic mechanisms of bacteria like Streptococcus agalactiae, Staphylococcus aureus, and E. coli, emphasizing rapid diagnostics and antimicrobial resistance.
