Jan Cami is a Full Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Western University (Ontario, Canada) and Director of the Hume Cronyn Memorial Observatory. He is also a Research Associate at the SETI Institute. His research focuses on observational astronomy, astrochemistry, and interstellar medium studies, particularly carbon-rich molecules like fullerenes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). He leads the international EDIBLES Survey to decode diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs).
- Research Interests: Fullerenes (C60/C70), DIBs, PAHs, planetary nebulae, and JWST-era astrophysics.
- Awards: 2019 Qilak Award for science outreach.
- Outreach: Organizes Science Rendezvous, contributes to public lectures, and engages in radio broadcasts.
His work combines ground-based (VLT, Gemini) and space telescopes (Hubble, JWST), with computational methods to analyze molecular interactions in extreme environments. He actively mentors graduate and undergraduate students in astrochemical research.
