Jamil Scott is an Assistant Professor of Government at Georgetown University's College, Department of Government. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Michigan State University and a B.A. in Political Science (with Honors) from the University of Maryland, College Park, along with a Psychology and Government & Politics undergraduate focus. Her research focuses on Black women's political emergence in state-level governance, racial attitudes in American politics, electoral systems reform, and the intersection of race, gender, and public policy.
Dr. Scott has received the King-Chavez Park Future Faculty Fellowship and co-lead a grant from the New America Foundation. Her book manuscript project examines barriers and pathways for Black women's political leadership at the state level. She has published widely on topics including Supreme Court legitimacy, ranked-choice voting dynamics, and the socio-economic influences shaping Black women's political engagement. Her work bridges empirical political behavior studies with critical race and feminist theory frameworks.
