Jamil Jubrail

Jamil Jubrail is a Lecturer in the Department of Science and Engineering at Solent University. He holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield (2014) and master’s degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology (2010). His postdoctoral research included stints at the Institut Cochin in Paris (collaborating with AstraZeneca) and the University of Edinburgh, focusing on viral-bacterial interactions in respiratory infections. He joined Solent University in 2021 to establish an independent research group.

Research Interests: Dr. Jubrail’s work centers on macrophage dysfunction in respiratory diseases, viral manipulation of host immune responses, and bacterial persistence mechanisms. Key areas include:

• Role of macrophages in Staphylococcus aureus and human rhinovirus infections
• Host defense peptides in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections
• Mechanisms of phagocytosis defects in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Professional Engagement: Active member of the European Respiratory Society (ERS), peer reviewer for the European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology (EBAP), and reviewer for multiple journals. His research bridges fundamental immunology with translational respiratory medicine.
